It’s hard to believe tomorrow is already Thanksgiving! With fall weather upon us, leaves turning and a chill in the air it’s time to reflect and think back on the year so far. How can you give thanks this Thanksgiving?
There are so many ways to show your thanks to those around you! Not sure what you can do to give thanks? Here are a few ways to give thanks this holiday season.
Write personal notes to those you care about and take a few moments to thank them for all they have done and continue to do. Get your kids and grandkids to participate by asking them to add notes and illustrations as well.
Deliver cookies or candy to your neighbors and say thanks. Create gift bags or purchase a small token of your appreciation. This could even be a good way to clean out that leftover Halloween candy 🙂
Express gratitude when others don’t expect it. Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks but don’t forget all the other times of year too! Find a way to express your gratitude throughout the year. While giving thanks is on your mind now, jot down a few future dates to thank your loved ones in your calendar, and surprise them midyear!
Share what you have with others. Invite solo holidayers to your home for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Make an effort to open up your home to those who might not have a place to go for the holiday. Or, better yet, make a doggie bag for the less fortunate who may be begging for food and money. A homecooked meal warms the heart like nothing else!
Pay it forward with a good deed by buying someone’s groceries at the supermarket or while in line at Starbucks.
A small but thoughtful gift can really go a long way to brighten someone’s day. Consider even fresh flowers or a card with heartfelt sentiments.
Volunteer this holiday season to give thanks to those in your community. Help serve meals to the homeless or hand out supplies to the homeless. Look for a cause near and dear to your heart and volunteer this holiday season. Check out Volunteer Match to find opportunities in your neighborhood.
Show your appreciation with food! Buy a loved one their favorite coffee drink and attach a tag that says “Thanks a Latte”. Buy a box of donuts and attach a tag that says, “‘Donut’ know what we would do without you. Thanks!”. Or add a tag to their favorite candy bar with a creative thankful saying.
